So a bit of an iconic image for you today. Well - let’s say trend setting rather than iconic because I’m sure this was the image that single handedly made everyone want a black bathroom, muggins here included. Jenna Lyons was the creator - you know, the woman who also single handedly brought J. Crew back into the spotlight? Yeah that Jenna Lyons. The house in general has good bones but the choice of black? Ugh, I love it.

Happy happy Friday! I hope you have a wonder weekend ahead. More today from that awesome Barcelona pad. You see? Don’t those floors look incredible? Major crush!

Uhhhh, I think I may have died and gone to interiors heaven……in Barcelona. Heaven in Barcelona. Ok enough. But seriously?! When I come across spaces like this I’m reminded why I love my job. I also get a serious craving for adventure and the feeling of possibility - like “I can do that!” also a massive craving to do exactly that. You following me? It’s hard to explain, but I love nothing more then trawling the net for run down, tired properties (all over the world!) and dreaming about all the things I could do to them. This place gets me because of its enormous proportions, elegant details, amazing windows and mix of contemporary furnishings. I’m also slightly in love with the floor. Like a LOT in love.

Loving this light & airy dining room mixed with vintage leather and classic pieces, such as the Tulip table (my fav!). Notice how your eye is drawn from the table arrangement through the rooms to wall display at the back. It creates a nice focal point throughout the space.

So every year AP hold a “Small Cool Homes” competition where folks can send in pictures of their home all in a bid to win the contest. I love this! I love trawling through the entries and would even consider entering myself if my place were ready (sadly & probably thankfully it’s not - not by a mile). This year marks the 10th annual competition and as always there are lots of interesting entries. My favourite by far is this little beauty called Erin’s Well Considered Home. She has combined a mix of styles that work together seamlessly. Slightly industrial, slightly vintage, definitely collected and monochromatic at the core (but not in a harsh sharp way) Erin’s home is a reflection of her and that’s the best part! You can really get a feel for the competitors. I find it fascinating - looking at a strangers home and being able to form a mental impression of who these people are, how they live, what they like and even what they might do as a profession. I’ve always said that I believe our homes are an extension of ourselves. If there were such a thing as a PHD in this I swear I would do it in a heartbeat!

More from Maria Lladó. This crazy lady sure isn’t shy about mixing it up! Is it wrong that I love those mustard yellow chairs?!?

For those of you in the UK (or anywhere other than American really), you probably won’t be familiar with Emily Henderson, a designer and HGTV  show host in the US. Many moons ago Emily competed on a very popular TV Design competition called Design Star where she won and it’s been interesting watching her grow and develop ever since (I watched the whole competition……Yep, geek). Even back then she was fun and playful with her style which has only become stronger. She’s quite thrifty and loves her vintage (good girl!) and often recovers old tired pieces like those aqua chairs above. Have a look at her site. It’s entertaining reading and she has some fun ideas.

Uhhh, hello! Where, what, who? Maria Lladó is the Spanish designer responsible for this little set up. She is bold and a little fierce. Described as a three speed blender, she artfully mixes pieces & colours where others wouldn’t dare go and I love it. It’s brave and fun & super eclectic. It’s refreshing to see something a little different.

How much do I love this image?!? I think that one of the most attractive features you can add to a house is a good home library and this one is near perfect (in my opinion). It may be slightly indulgent to have a small room dedicated solely to your books and pieces (see what I did there?), but if you have the space I can’t think of a better use.

Happy Monday! A little bit of glamour and elegance for you today. There are many things I like about this room from the patterned floor and furniture choices to the unexpected pale pink walls! It’s feminine yes, but not in a twee or overly girly way. In fact, make sure to check out the link above because the before and after shots are really quite dramatic. It’s not all to my taste, but there is no denying the difference & improvement the designer has created. Job well done!

Sunday Funday! I’m off to a flea market to do some damage and further encourage my hoarding problem although, this time I’m on the hunt for plants. I mean Cactus (obvs!) but also a few frilly palm-esq beauties to fill my house with. I want a jungle inside! much like the place above :) Happy Sunday!

The one thing I’m struggling to figure out in my house is a dining area. The flat is large for London standards but the way it’s configured means I have to compromise on comfort somewhere if I want everything (something I’m in complete denial about!). As much as I’d love a whole room as my dining area, I think that’s perhaps a bit greedy….. I think the solution is to incorporate it into the kitchen somehow - by way of a counter/bar or perhaps island. Watch this space. I’ll make sure to post pictures when it’s done.

And over on the Design Files this morning was a feature on one of my favourite Interior Stylists, Sibella Court. I feel like Sibella and I should most definitely be friends (not in a creepy way….and should we ever meet ). Quite simply we share an appreciation for all things curious and obscure. She is a collector, a beach comber, a hunter - like me. You’ll know what I mean if this applies to you and you won’t understand it if it doesn’t. Oh Sibella, please be my friend, or at least take me to all your treasure finding locations!

Now that I’m back from my mini break (Boooo!) it’s time to start thinking about really getting the renovations started. Pulled some stuff out of storage to try and wade through all the crap sort it out…… It’s amazing how you forget what you have and how exciting it is rediscovering it all!

Interior Designer raised in the Caribbean and transplanted in London. These are images I collect which I love. It might only be a part of an image, a single object or the composition, but each has something that I am drawn to.
